Abbot Grant

Hey all! Great news!

Today we recieved notification that we have recieved the Abbot Grant, which we applied for a few weeks ago.

What does this mean? A few things. With the money we will be upgrading our recording studio, putting in much needed soundproofing and therefore improving recording quality. That means those of you with bands can make an appointment with us and get a CD made! Exciting. It also means we’ll be upgrading the broadcasting studio with new and professional mics. Shows will now be clearer, and we shouldn’t have issues with volume on our end anymore!

In other news, we’re putting together plans for a WPAA sponsored event, keep your eyes open and your ears peeled for more information.

We’ve also begun to broadcast The Weekender on WPAA. Every wednesday we’ll have an updated annoucement with the major goings-ons for the coming weekends.

Also, we at WPAA wish all athletes who are competing in the coming week against Exeter and at Interschols good luck, as well as to those of us who plan on spending Saturday freezing our butts off! GO BIG BLUE.

Battle of the Bands 2009 a roaring success

by admin on May.31, 2009, under News

549919352_img_7503_filtered1Friday, May 29th 2009. WPAA rocked the Andover campus to the core, hosting this year’s Battle of the Bands in the Den. It was a great show and the bands showed some serious talent. When the dust settled, Andover’s famed Seven Layer Crunch Wrap Supreme reigned supreme and recieved a stunning trophy. It was a fantastic night!

Special thanks goes out to everyone who helped set up, run, judge, and clean up!

Battle of the Bands 2009 marked the end of programming for WPAA for the 2008-2009 school year. Be sure to check back in next year for even better programming and shows brought to you by WPAA. If you’re interested in being a part of WPAA, let us know!

WPAA Hosts its first live in-studio music broadcast!

by admin on May.21, 2009, under News

WPAA's First Live Music Broadcast

Hey All,

Last week, we at WPAA broadcasted for the first time a student band live over the radio. This was a major success for us in the studio and for those who put it together. It went flawlessly   as the band played on Will Falk-Wallace’s “PA’s got Soul” radioshow. The band played great and will be strutting their stuff at Battle of the Bands on Friday, May 29th. Keep your eyes open for more information on that!

Thanks go out to Matt Appleby and David Janovsky who devoted a serious amount of time to setting Studio B up and recording the music.

As we get back on our feet, be sure to tune in.

-Nick

Welcome to the New WPAA

by admin on May.10, 2009, under News

Let there be light!… or at least a new wpaa.com. As a part of the revival of Phillips Academy Radio, we’ve upgraded to a shiny new website! Exciting, isn’t it! It will offer up to date, helpful, and interesting information from the studio, including weekly schedules and more. In the future, we hope wpaa.com will be a valuable source of information, with things like campus news, weekend events, sports scores, etc.

Why a new website? As we discovered, the old website was difficult to manage and most importantly, difficult to update. To fix this, we’ve switched our website to WordPress, which will make bringing you the information you want easier. You can thank Carl Jackson ’09 for the beautiful theme.

What about all the cool downloads from the old website? Don’t worry, they’re still around—just visit http://old.wpaa.com. As we continue to update the new website we hope to move it all here, but for now the old website will be the source of all that.

Do you have any questions about the new site? Either comment on this post, or send me an email at rdean@andover.edu
